About this place
Big Al Trailhead is situated adjacent to the Transfer Campground complex off NFSR 565. It provides non-motorized access to the West Mancos Canyon via Transfer #192 and West Mancos #621 trails. The barrier-free Big Al Trail #630 also starts here and terminates at a canyon overlook. A small parking area is available. From Mancos, CO: Travel 1/4 mile north on Highway 184, then turn right on West Mancos Road (Forest Road 561). Travel 10 miles until the junction with NFSR 565 and turn right (east) 0.25 miles to the parking area for the trailhead. Most of West Mancos Road is chip-seal paved to the trailhead.
