The Rock Springs Trailhead is often used to gain quick access on the Rock Springs Trail 1928 to the connecting trails on the Little Minam and Minam Rivers in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. This minimally developed trailhead is also popular for mushrooming in the spring and picking huckleberries in the fall. From La Grande, Oregon travel east on Highway 82 (Wallowa Lake Highway) for 20 miles to Elgin, Oregon; In Elgin continue on Highway 82 for 5.1 miles to Hindman Road; Turn right on Hindman Road (County Road 59) and go about 8.5 miles; the road will become Forest Road 62; Continue on Forest Road 62 for 9.5 miles to trailhead on right side of road.
