About this place

The Rattlesnake Fire Overlook is a interpretive and training site that overlooks the location of the fire in Grindstone Canyon, along the old Alder Springs Road. An informational display describes the events of the fire and lessons learned from the tragedy. Nearby there is a parking area leading to a trail that travels the routes taken by the firefighters who died and those who survived. From Elk Creek, head onto CA-162 W. In 3.7 miles, turn left to stay on CA-162 W. In about 4 miles, turn right onto Rd 307/Alder Springs Road. Up the road in 2 miles, the trailhead will be on your right.
