George Washington & Jefferson National Forests Supervisor, Maureen Hyzer issued a temporary, emergency closure of the 16-mile Patterson Mountain ATV Trail System, located in Botetourt County, Virginia. The U.S. Forest Service recently completed water quality monitoring and found this motorized trail system is adversely affecting soils, resulting in a high level of sedimentation in adjacent streams. The current condition of the trails is not compliant with standards found in the Jefferson National Forest Plan.
