About this place

North Winnie semi-primitive non-motorized area has 24 miles of trail. There are primitive campsites in the area for the day or overnight trips. There are also several small clear lakes, a meandering creek, and a wildlife impoundment. The area will provide opportunities for hiking, hunting, wildlife viewing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, horseback riding and many other non-motorized activities. The rolling topography offers cross-country and mountain bike trails for the intermediate and advanced skiers and bikers. The trails are mowed in the summer; ski routes are not groomed in the winter. From Deer River, Minnesota go about 25 miles NW on FR 2171. The area lies north of Lake Winnibigoshish and south of Dixon Lake and Round Lake.
