About this place

Access to the North Fork Sauk Trail 649. This 9-mile 1 way trail gains about 5,000 feet of elevation by the time it interests with the Pacific Crest Trail near White Pass. Begin in impressive old-growth forest, immediately entering the Glacier Peak Wilderness. Find campsites and backcountry toilets in 3.5 miles at Red Creek, 2,800 feet, and five miles at Mackinaw Shelter, 2,950 feet. This is the main route for climbing Glacier Peak and accesses Pilot Ridge Trail 652 as part of the popular Pilot Ridge Loop. From the Darrington Ranger Station, take the Mt. Loop Highway 17.0 miles to Sloan Creek Road (Forest Service road 49) and turn left. Follow this road for 6.5 miles to the trailhead on the left.
