Provides access to Grassy Knoll Trail #146. This steep trail follow a ridge through rolling hills with oak trees providing shade and grassy meadows with excellent views of the River, the Big Lava Bed and surrounding mountains. Cold springs, located about 5 miles from the trailhead, provide a good cooling-off spot on this otherwise dry hike. The trail ends at 5.5 miles from the trailhead at the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000 below Big Huckleberry Mountain. Motorized vehicles and bicycles are prohibited on the Pacific Crest Trail. Grassy Knoll was the site of a fire lookout in the 1930's.
