This Trailhead sits right behind the Alder Guard Station Cabin and the trail climbs the ridge to the west. From here you have excellent views of the Rio Grande Canyon between South Fork and Creede. This trail goes another 5 miles north to Forest Service Road 602. The trail is open to motorcycles, mountain bikes, hikers and horses but is steep and rocky in many places. The trailhead is small and only adequate for smaller vehicles. From the Town of South Fork travel northwest on State Hwy 149 one mile until you cross the Rio Grande River. Turn right on County Road 15. Travel east on 15 a little over a mile until you see a sign for Forest Road 610. Turn left and go north on 610 2 miles to the Alder Guard Station. Park behind the Guard Station at the trailhead.
