The Carp River is a Congressionally designated Wild and Scenic River. This designation recognizes the Carp River's outstandingly remarkable values and therefore is granted environmental protection to be preserved in its free-flowing condition for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations. As the name implies, the site is located where the river meets Lake Huron. Due to its clear, cold waters that move over boulders and granite with a gravel bottom, fly fishing excels here, especially when combined with seasonal insect hatches. Those heading out to fish the Carp will find brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, and seasonal runs of steelhead and salmon - including pink, coho, and chinook. The site is also well-known for the spring smelt migration. There is a primitive boat launch, a fishing pier, several fire rings, ample parking and a vault toilet, not to mention beautiful views of the Carp River and Lake Huron. This site is not open to camping, however camping is available a little further upstream at Carp River Campground.
