About this place
American Canyon is a small, secluded campground which borders the Machesna Wilderness. While the campground is accessible through the wilderness, it is a long and strenuous hike as vehicles are not permitted in wilderness areas. The only motorized entrance is through the Avenales Ranch, a working cattle ranch. Please respect private property! A fee is charged. From San Luis Obispo: Hwy 101, 8 miles north to Hwy 58, 3 miles east, Pozo Rd. 19 miles east, Pozo-Branch Mtn. Rd. 7 miles southeast, Forest road 30S04 2 miles northeast.
