The area is part of the mineral belt that extends into Leadville. Many of the four-wheel drive roads were created by miners over 100 years ago, which are now popular for four-wheel driving in the summer and fall months. The campground is near the Alpine Tunnel historic site. Drive east on Forest Road 765 (Cumberland Pass Road) for one mile to Forest Road 767. Turn right and drive five miles to the campground.
